Adults and juvenile felony and misdemeanor offenders can be put on probation.  A risk assessment is done on each probationer to determine the level of supervision necessary to reduce the risk of the defendant re-offending.  After the defendant is pleads guilty or is found guilty by a jury, the Court orders either supervised or unsupervised probation, often after reviewing PSI or pre-sentence investigation report which includes recommendations by the Probation Dept.  It's important to have a zealous advocate review the PSI for errors.

Violation of any condition of probation may lead to the filing of a complaint with the Court by your Probation Officer.  A  decision by the judge as whether or not to revoke probation will be determined at a hearing.  You run the risk of being sentenced to Community Corrections, Comm Corr, jail or prison or your might be re-sentenced to probation.  You need a zealous advocate to present persuasive arguments in favor of not revoking probation.

Alcohol probation is typically ordered as part of the sentence for drinking and driving offenses.  The Alcohol Drug Driving Safety Unit (ADDS) completes an evaluation of the alcohol probationer and oversees the completion of the alcohol classes, community service, Victim Impact Panel, and any other conditions of the sentence ordered by the Court.
